Alternatives
What are the best Lumosity alternatives?
Short answer
The right Lumosity alternative depends on what you want to change. Elevate leans toward reading, writing, speaking and math. Peak covers memory, attention and problem-solving, with an Apple Watch app and a built-in Coach. Impulse adds IQ-style and personality tests. Wits adds general-knowledge games and in-app lessons.

Why look beyond Lumosity
Lumosity, from Lumos Labs, is a long-running brain training program with 40+ games for speed, memory, attention, flexibility, problem-solving, math and words. Itâs free to download with a free 10-minute Fit Test, and Lumosity Premium adds a personalized training program and in-depth performance insights, with prices listed on the App Store.
If youâre weighing alternatives, itâs usually because you want a different emphasis: more reading and writing, general knowledge, tests, a watch app, or simply new games after a long run with the same ones. Each alternative below leans a different way.

Subscribers get longer custom workouts and crosswords.
Elevate may suit you if
- You want a large library focused on reading, writing and speaking.

Peak
Peak may suit you if you like a mix of memory, attention and problem-solving but want something different around it: an Apple Watch app, a built-in Coach, or Advanced Training modules for specific skills. Peak may suit you if

Wits
Wits may suit you if you want knowledge and language games in your day as well as memory, focus, numbers and reasoning. Itâs our app. In the iPhone app, each day brings Dot Path and a set of quick games from the skills in your plan, and one-minute lessons explain the idea behind a game before you play it. Your first three games unlock a Wits card with a play style, such as The Strategist or The Wordsmith.
Wits Basic is free in the iPhone app and on the web. In the app: Dot Path, Sort It, Word Wheel, Speed Math, Card Pairs and Color Clash, plus daily trivia. On the web, a free Wits account plays Dot Path, Color Clash and Word Code (Word Code is Premium in the app). Premium, for the iPhone app, is $39.99 a year with 3 days free for new subscribers, or $6.99 a week. Wits for iPhone is available on the App Store.
Wits may suit you if
- You want general-knowledge games as well as speed and memory.
- You want a free plan: six free games in the iPhone app, Dot Path included, or Dot Path, Color Clash and Word Code on the web.
- Youâd like a short lesson before you play, in the iPhone app.
How to decide
If Lumosityâs games feel familiar and you want a change, try one alternativeâs free tier for a week before you subscribe. Some practical questions:
- Do you want more words and reading (Elevate), more variety around similar skills (Peak), tests (Impulse) or general knowledge (Wits)?
- Which device will you actually use: phone, tablet, watch or browser?
- What do the plans cost where you live? Check each App Store listing, since prices can vary.
- Does the app make claims you can check?
Lumosity, like every app here, is best judged by whether you enjoy it. People reliably get better at the games they practice, while evidence that brain games make everyday thinking easier is much weaker. Fun is a fair way to choose.
