Open with common letters
E, A, R, O, T, I, N and S are among the most common letters in English words. An opener like CRANE, SLATE or TRAIN tests several of them at once.
Use every clue in the next guess
Keep green letters where they are, move gold letters to a new spot, and avoid gray ones. A guess that ignores a clue wastes information.
Think about letter positions
Some letters lean toward certain places: words often end in E, Y, S or T, and pairs like CH, SH, TH and ST are common. If you know a word ends in -IGHT, the question is only which letter comes first.
Watch for double letters
When you’re stuck with few letters left, consider a repeated letter, as in SPOON or LEVEL. A gold letter can appear in more than one place.
Use hints wisely
Wits gives two hints a level, each revealing one letter in place. A hinted clear earns up to two stars, so try a guess or two first.
